You already know who Rusko is and what he’s achieved. You know he’s the original dubstep party starter who took the 140bpm formula to America and helped spawn an entire generation of new producers, kick starting the bass music revolution in the process. And you know that Rusko has released two critically acclaimed albums on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, collaborated with hip hop legends Cypress Hill for an incredible EP and remixed and produced for some of the world’s biggest stars.
But what you might not know is that Rusko is hitting the UK again this winter, both with a bass-fuelled tour and an immense self-released EP packed with fresh Rusko tracks. The ‘KAPOW’ EP features four brand new tunes from Rusko, one of which has already been supported on Radio 1 by his close friend and fellow dubstep luminary, Skream.
‘KAPOW‘ is the embodiment of Rusko’s style. Bold, brash and undoubtedly heavy, it’s also bristling with fresh ideas and Rusko’s intensely musical juxtapositions. And not only is the music fresh, so is Rusko’s approach to releasing the EP. Fans will have the opportunity to choose how to purchase the extended player; either paying with a tweet, sharing the link to the EP with their friends or simply by using traditional cold, hard cash.
Kicking off with ‘Yeah’ fans of Rusko are instantly plunged into his world with a gentle intro packed with musicality and euphoric rave vocals that’s quickly answered with a drop big enough to have every dance floor jumping. ‘Booyakasha’ is breakbeat for the dubstep generation with beats that switch at a moment’s notice while Rusko’s inimitable party style shines through.
‘Bring It Back’ sees Rusko offer up a musical dubstep beast. Beautiful vocal snippets are interspersed with chunky synth lines and a tongue-in-cheek attitude that’s irresistible. Finally Rusko delves into 110bpm territory with ‘Like This’, a huge number that will be at home on just about any modern bass-fuelled dance floor.
