Deep Medi is looking set to continue its rich run of form as we roll in to 2014 with the announcement of the debut release on the label from Istanbul based producer Gantz.
If you are familiar with the man’s releases for the like of Innamind, Black Box and sister label Box Clever over the past year or so you’ll know already that he’s one of the most interesting and eccentric producers in the scene. If you are not familiar then it’s about time you got to know.
A-Side ‘Spry Sinister’ is a masterclass in space and pressure, with a thunderously dense blend of off kilter drums and endlessly looping vocal mantras which burst into a vast pocket of space, initially punctuated by only sparse minor keys, before the whole thing comes lurching back to life for a chaotic finish. Over on the flip Gantz teams up with El Mahdy Jr for standout cut ‘Rising’ a string laden morning prayer of a production that should be the perfect antidote for anyone claiming the creativity has been drained from the 140 tempo. If Deep Medi keep things at this level it looks like 2014 should be another amazing year.
