J:Kenzo’s Artikal Music are kicking off the new year release schedule with a fresh face in the form of the Petroglyphs EP by EshOne and the man is wasting no time making a mark with his sound.
Title track Petroglyphs opens proceedings with a slow burn lurch of reverb soaked train whistles and almost bottomless percussive kicks akin to a locomotive about to stagger to a halt, this energy is then cleverly inverted as the track gains a sudden momentum and tears off on a steam powered tribal skank replete with whirring synths and some eccentric swing. It’s a neat little twist on the standard dubstep template and definite A side material. Over on the flip Number Nine, with its pensive minor key synths and dense sonic layering channels the spirit of Goth-Trad’s hectic work whilst Hot Sauce takes things off on another skippy tribal excursion perfect for the one foot skankers. EshOne definitely has a fine grasp of detailed
rhythmic pattern and if he keeps applying it as creatively as this he’ll certainly be a producer to keep an eye on in 2014.
EshOne’s Petroglyphs EP is available on 12″ and digital download via the Artikal Music Surus store on 31/01/2014
